Lake Bound Bookstore

Originally designed as a lab and clean room, this building felt sterile, colorless, and disconnected from its future purpose. Our goal was to transform it into a bookstore, podcast studio, and coworking community that feels warm, welcoming, and creatively energizing.

Rather than undertake a major structural renovation, we chose to work within the existing footprint and reimagine how each area could support the experience we wanted visitors to have. The most innovative transformation is a small interior room that may once have served as a storage closet. We converted it into a fully soundproof podcast studio equipped with professional technology, turning an overlooked space into a functional revenue-generating asset.

One of the project's biggest challenges was the lack of architectural character. To address this, we introduced arched entryways in place of the original rectangular openings, creating a softer visual rhythm and drawing the eye upward. These subtle interventions added warmth, depth, and a sense of intentional design throughout the space.

To align with the Lake Bound Bookstore brand, we developed a nautical-inspired design direction. Natural textures, calming tones, and lake-inspired details help guests feel as though they are stepping into a creative retreat by the water.

The result is more than an aesthetic upgrade. It is a space that supports creativity, connection, and community while remaining highly functional for daily operations. Visitors often describe it as tranquil, inviting, and inspiring—a place that feels as good as it looks.
