Where historic charm meets modern functionality, this full-scale interior and exterior renovation transformed a neglected 1830s landmark into two thriving businesses: Sand Lake Merchant, a modern general store and event venue, and Gipfel Coffee, a welcoming café and coffee house.
From initial planning through final styling, our team collaborated closely with architects, contractors, and local permitting authorities to thoughtfully restore and reimagine the property. Preserving the building's rich history was a guiding principle throughout the project. Original features, including the 150-year-old hardwood floors and exposed beadboard ceilings, were carefully restored, while thoughtfully selected modern elements were integrated to complement the building's timeless character.
Beyond aesthetics, every design decision was rooted in functionality. Commercial kitchens, service areas, and event spaces were strategically planned to support efficient daily operations while creating an exceptional experience for customers and guests. The result is a cohesive interior and exterior design that honors the building's past while ensuring it remains a vibrant community destination for generations to come.
